The reenactment of the Battle of McDowell forms the centerpiece for the "McDowell Battlefield Heritage Days" which was originally held every two years on the first weekend of May by the Highland Historical Society and Highland County Chamber of Commerce. The last McDowell Eevent was held in 2007, and after a five year hiatus, we are looking forward to the Gala 150th Anniversary Battle of McDowell Living History and Reenactment! This is the only event being held in the 150th Cycle to commemorate Stonewall Jackson's famous Valley Campaign.

The event receives strong support from the local community. Many local residents take part in the traditional craft demonstrations and exhibits, in conducting tours for spectators, in making and selling refreshments, in helping to man information tables with historic preservation information. Some participate in the reenactment itself.
