Bob Denton (right), Travis Haymaker (center), and Roo Haymaker (left), conducting a lecture at the first Battle of McDowell Living History back in 1996. It was here that the conversations began that lead to the McDowell event as we know it today!

The event takes place on the original site - an unspoiled place of unparalleled beauty in Virginia's Allegheny Highlands.

Possum Hollow, site of the Sunday tactical at the 2001 event.

View across the ford and towards Hogshead Field, the site of the Saturday Battle. This is the land where the Federal Forces formed up to attack the Confederate forces atop Sitlington's Hill. The McDowell 2001 event helped raise funds to finish paying off the mortgage of this important and endangered portion of the battlefield!

Scenarios include troop movements through mountain roads and trails.

A view in the hollow. Note the locust "worm" fences and dirt road.
